Canary Islands and Madeira 2024

At the end of 2024 we have visited Canary Islands and Madeira. These are beautiful islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira was by far our favorite: Green everywhere and a lot of flowers. Also as it was the end of 2024 the capital city Funchal was beautifully decorated for x-mas and wonderfully lit in the night.

The Canary Islands

A Spanish territory, the Canary Islands boast a diverse landscape that spans golden beaches, lush forests, and volcanic peaks. Tenerife, the largest island, is home to Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gran Canaria offers vibrant city life in Las Palmas alongside tranquil, secluded beaches. For nature enthusiasts, Lanzarote captivates with its lunar-like terrain, and La Palma is a stargazer’s dream with its pristine dark skies.

The islands’ warm climate makes them a year-round destination, ideal for activities like hiking, surfing, and whale watching. Visitors can also enjoy delicious Canarian cuisine, featuring dishes like papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes) and mojo sauce.

Madeira

Known as the “Pearl of the Atlantic,” Madeira is a lush Portuguese island renowned for its dramatic cliffs, terraced vineyards, and vibrant flowers. The capital, Funchal, is a lively hub with historic charm, offering activities like wine tasting and exploring the famous Mercado dos Lavradores. Adventurers can trek the levadas—historic irrigation channels—while soaking in breathtaking views of the island’s mountainous terrain.

Both Madeira and the Canary Islands promise unforgettable experiences, blending natural beauty with rich cultural heritage. Whether you’re drawn by adventure, relaxation, or exploration, these Atlantic gems deliver something special for everyone.
