We spent two wonderful weeks on a yacht in Friesland, exploring the peaceful waterways of the Dutch north. Our trip started and ended in Sneek, one of Frieslandβs most charming towns, and took us through a mix of quiet villages and lively cities β each with its own rhythm and character.
Life on the water was wonderfully simple. Every day offered a new route through canals, lakes, and small harbors, with windmills, green meadows, and Friesian cows passing by. The pace was slow, the air fresh, and time seemed to stretch in the best possible way.
We had our bikes on board, which allowed us to explore the countryside and nearby towns even more closely. Cycling through Frieslandβs flat landscapes, stopping at local cafΓ©s, and discovering hidden spots off the main waterways made the trip even more memorable.
We enjoyed meeting friendly local people, discovering small markets, and of course, tasting plenty of Dutch cheesealong the way. Frieslandβs towns β from Sneek to Leeuwarden and beyond β combine maritime charm with authentic Dutch culture.
Whether docking for a walk, watching the bridges open for passing boats, or just relaxing on deck in the evening sun, it was a journey full of peace and connection to the landscape. Frieslandβs waterways truly are made for slowing down and enjoying the moment.
