That was an intense but successful week at work. Still I could not wait to get out there for a run. I just needed it!!

Hence I did my Thank God Its Friday (TGIF) Run! 🙂 See details on Strava:

Running again

Just a couple of weeks ago I started to run again. Last year I was cycling a lot and actually did 5000km in that year. Since I am now also doing quite a bit of scuba diving I simply do have less time for cycling – so instead of a 2.5h cycling tour I just go for a 45 min run now.

PPM – Pain Per Minute

So “Training Efficiency” or calories burned per minute is just higher with running… in other words: “Pain Per Minute” Running is > PPM Cycling. At least for me. 🙂

Slowly getting faster

Today I was going a bit faster – just to see what I can do over a 7000 meter run. Was pleased to see that I can get close to 6 mins / km now. Given that we have really warm summer temperatures in Munich thats OK and in line with my current expectations – although not even close to what I have been able to do 2-3 years ago.

Enough on sports now…

I earned my beer + steak today! Hope you enjoy your weekend, too!

Run-Bike to Kindergarten

Super nice morning run. Joined by my 6-year-old on this team exercise:

Run-Bike to Kindergarten! 🙂

And yes – so far I am still the one that is running and he is on the bike 🙂

First Run with my Garmin Fenix 5x

First Run with my Garmin Fenix 5x

Just did the first run with my new Garmin Fenix 5x. I upgraded from the Fenix 3 – so the one without integrated HR sensor.

A surprise

I was a bit surprised that the new watch did not make me any faster. Damn – so still training required even with this awesome device 😉

Fenix 5x vs. my old Fenix 3 – what I like

  • Has integrated HR sensor
  • Better resolution display
  • Integrated Maps
  • Easily changeable wrist bands

Fenix 5x vs. my old Fenix 3 – where I expected more

  • Still very bulky – not exactly an elegant sports watch
  • Map loading can be a bit slow
  • Price

The verdict

I like the Garmin Fenix 5x. And coming from the Fenix 3 (without HR sensor) for me it was worth the upgrade as I travel a lot and now I don’t need to remember to also bring the HR chest strap.

My run on Strava:

I always try to find new routes to cycle. That often works and I find wonderful new areas.

This time it was just dreadful with traffic and roads I wish I had my MTB. Next time I let Garmin do the work – TGIF!

Light rain – light ride

Light rain - light ride

Nice and easy Sunday morning recovery ride in light rain. I love the Sunday morning rides when the streets are still quite empty.

Also the rain was very welcome as it was really hot the last couple of days.
