The Wörthsee or “Wörth lake” is a lake in the Starnberg district of Bavaria – south of Germany. I can drive to Wörthsee in under 30 minutes from where I live.

When I took the photos in February there was still some ice and snow around. But I was surprised to discover that in the water close to that footbridge there was no ice.

The reason is simple: They installed some air pipes that would constantly emit bubbles. So due to the water movement of these bubbles the water would not freeze.

This is how I took the aerial photo with the white ice and snow around the green water. Your can see the footbridge in the middle – no ice.
