May 26 – June 3, 2015 – Texel, Netherlands
Texel is one of the most unique and beautiful destinations in the Dutch Wadden Sea. During our family trip, we enjoyed long beach walks, wide dunes, and the unmistakable coastal light that makes Texel so special. From the iconic Eierland Lighthouse to the endless tidal flats, the island delivers a perfect mix of nature, culture, and relaxation.
A true highlight was meeting the famous Texel sheep, known worldwide for their distinctive, muscular shape. Seeing them grazing peacefully on the green hills is one of those classic Texel experiences and a reminder of the island’s strong agricultural heritage.
We also visited the Juttersmuseum Kaap Skil, Texel’s beachcomber museum. It’s an incredible collection of maritime objects washed ashore—ropes, buoys, fishing gear, anchors, floats, and colorful finds that reveal the island’s connection to the sea. The museum’s fishing sheds and maritime displays offer a unique look into Texel’s culture.
Along the way we spotted wildlife like gulls, pheasants, and Highland cattle, while kite surfers added energy to the coastline. From sunrise colors to sunset over the North Sea, Texel gave us calm, space, and unforgettable family time.
