Exploring form, texture, and minimalism through studio lighting

For this still life session in February 2015, the focus was a single white cup — but not as an everyday object. Instead, we explored it as an abstract sculpture, using controlled studio lighting to reveal curves, edges, and subtle reflections. The result is a series of minimalist images where the cup becomes a study in form and contrast.

By placing the cup against a deep black background, every highlight and shadow gained importance. Side light created soft gradients, while harder light emphasized sharp edges and flowing shapes. Rotating the cup slightly with each shot transformed its look entirely: sometimes elegant, sometimes bold, sometimes almost unrecognizable. This approach turned a simple object into a series of abstract compositions.

Still life photography often shows the power of slowing down — adjusting light, refining angles, and paying attention to the smallest details. Here, the beauty came from minimalism: one object, one light source, endless possibilities for creative expression.
