Our mid-week father-and-son city break took us from Munich to Hamburg — a short and comfortable flight with Lufthansa, setting the tone for a few days full of discovery. Once in Hamburg, we checked in at The Fontenay, one of Germany’s most elegant hotels, beautifully situated on the shores of the Außenalster. Its circular architecture, serene lake views, and excellent breakfast made it the perfect base for exploring the city.

We spent our days wandering through the Speicherstadt, visiting the fascinating Miniatur Wunderland, and taking a harbour tour to see the cranes, ships, and container terminals up close. One evening, we attended the world-famous musical “Der König der Löwen” at the Stage Theater im Hafen — an unforgettable performance across the Elbe with impressive stage design and music.

Hamburg offered a perfect mix of maritime heritage, modern architecture like the Elbphilharmonie, and relaxed northern charm — an ideal setting for a shared adventure between father and son.
