Traveling through France by motorhome is one of the best ways to experience the variety of the country. The roads are well maintained, the campsites are excellent, and almost every region has its own unique landscape, culture, and food.
We began our trip in Paris, where the contrasts of the city are as striking as ever — elegant boulevards, historic monuments, lively cafés, and small side streets full of everyday life. The city feels timeless, and no matter how often you visit, there is always something new to discover.
From there, we drove northwest toward Normandy. The countryside changed quickly — rolling fields, hedgerows, and the smell of the sea. Normandy is known for its dairy products, apple orchards, and quiet coastal villages. But it’s also a region marked by history.
Visiting Omaha Beach was one of the most memorable parts of the trip. The long, open stretch of sand looks peaceful today, but knowing what happened there in June 1944 makes the experience deeply moving. Standing by the water, it’s impossible not to think about the soldiers who landed here and the scale of what took place along this coastline. The nearby cemeteries and memorials are beautifully maintained and serve as a powerful reminder of how much Europe’s peace cost to achieve.
Driving further west, the landscape became rougher and wilder as we entered Brittany (Bretagne). This region is known for its rugged cliffs, fishing ports, and strong cultural identity. You still see bilingual signs in French and Breton, and traditional stone houses in small coastal towns. The food is simple and regional — crepes, fresh seafood, cider — and the coastline offers countless small bays and lighthouses to explore.
Traveling with a motorhome made it easy to move freely between regions. France’s infrastructure for motorhomes is excellent, with many aires de camping-car that allow overnight stays close to nature or near small towns. It’s a flexible, comfortable way to see the country at your own pace.
Looking back, the journey showed once again how diverse France really is — from the urban energy of Paris to the quiet landscapes of Normandy and the untamed beauty of Brittany. Every region feels distinct, yet they all share the same sense of pride in culture, food, and history that makes France such a rewarding country to explore.
