A Week Afloat in Friesland

·

June 2026 – Yachtcharter in Netherlands, Friesland.

There’s a special calm that comes when you travel by water. In Friesland, that calm seems to stretch endlessly — across lakes that mirror the sky, through quiet canals lined with reeds, and into small towns where life moves at the rhythm of the wind.

For a week, we explored this northern Dutch province aboard Mrs. Jones, a chartered yacht from Sanzi Yachtcharter. It wasn’t about distance or destinations. Each day simply unfolded — coffee on deck, friendly waves from passing boats, and evenings watching the sky turn to gold.

Friesland is made for slow travel. The waterways lead past open fields, historic villages, and wide horizons. People here are open and kind — always ready with a smile, a wave, or a few words shouted from the shore. You feel like a guest among friends.

Out on the water, time fades. The sound of the engine becomes background music, replaced by the splash of ducks and the creak of ropes. Even the smallest things — a reflection, a ripple, a breeze — begin to feel significant.

When we finally returned to land, the world seemed too fast again. Friesland had reminded us that beauty doesn’t need to be chased; it’s everywhere, if you move slowly enough to see it.
