London – Canary Wharf

Did a business trip to London, Canary Wharf area and had only a bit of time to shoot some photos. All IPhone photos.

Canary Wharf is a major business and financial district located in East London, United Kingdom. It is situated on the Isle of Dogs, which is on the north bank of the River Thames. The district is named after the old Canary Wharf, which was a warehouse for importing fruit, particularly canaries.

Canary Wharf is home to some of the UK’s and Europe’s largest financial and professional services companies, and it is also a major center for international banking and finance. The district is known for its modern and impressive skyscrapers, such as One Canada Square (also known as the Canary Wharf Tower), which at the time of its completion in 1991, it was the tallest building in the United Kingdom and one of the tallest in Europe.

The area has grown significantly since the 1980s, with new office developments, residential buildings, shops, restaurants and amenities. It is a lively and bustling district with a diverse range of people working and living in the area. It is also a popular spot for entertainment and leisure, with many restaurants, bars, and shops to choose from, as well as a cinema, and a range of art galleries.

Canary Wharf is well-connected, with excellent transport links via the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, and Thames Clipper boat services. The Jubilee line connects Canary Wharf directly to key locations across London such as London Bridge, Westminster, and Bond Street.

The district has become an iconic symbol of London’s modern development and an important financial center in Europe, it is also an important example of urban regeneration in the UK.
